The environment seem to have the same futuristic feeling. In Blade Runner, the environment is dark and rainy, where in "Trouble and Her Friends" the environment seems sunny in the beginning of the except. It is stated in the except, "Outside the single window, the sun was setting beyond the buildings on the far side of the little park, throwing a last cold light across the grey stone and concrete. A reflection like a spark flared from the highest side windows of the Lomaro Building half a mile away-three-quarters of a kilometer...The sun dropped into a bank of dirty clouds, and the light went out as though someone has flicked a switch. On the horizon, beyond the five- and six-story buildings of the local neighborhood, neon flickered to life, running like light along the edges of the buildings." This is the core section that gave me the idea of what the weather was like in the story, which does have some similar aspects as Blade Runner. For example the lighting of the metropilis is seen with the use of neon lights.
TIME
The time never seemed to be indicated in the, "Trouble and Her Friends." It was mentioned in Blade Runner that the time frame was in the time 2019. We are not even an exact date in "Trouble and Her Friends", however it is only an except from the actual story. Both seem to be in the "near future", which I put in parathentes because for the story "Trouble and Her Friends" that could be today. They both have some extreme thinking for what the future holds, and what they figure will be present in due time. In Blade Runner, there are hoover cars (that produce a lot of smoke) and they have very ornate buildings that are gigantic.Where the technology, being the internet, was the extreme with what would develop over time.
CHARACTER
Blade Runner and "Trouble and Her Friends" had similar moments with clothing. In Blade Runner, Pris when at Sebastian's place at one point started wearing make-up similar to that of the dollie-girls in "Trouble and Her Friends", wearing "a parody of corporate suit-the skirts too short, slit thigh-high, the jackets too tight and sexy, their faces layered with clown bright make-up. Their shoes, bright neon-satin pumps, had three- and four- inch heels sheathed in steel, and there would be flip-knives and maybe a gun or two in the sequinned hand bag." Cerise and Rick "Blade Runner" seem to have similar tendencies as well they both seem to curse a lot. Cerise does so under her breathe. Both seem to have gangs that are both considered the enemy, or bad guys. Also, we slowly see them one by one leave the group, "lie low for a while", as in "Trouble and Her Friends", or in Blade Runner actually die. It's also funny how the lover/partner is named precisely what they have been doing for some time-trouble.
There was love found among characters in both stories. Love between Trouble and Cerise, and love, or what seems to be "love" by Deckard and Rachael.
THEMATIC
CONCERN(S)
Cerise wanting to take on IC(E) is similar to Roy when he was wanting to take on Dr. Tyrell in asking to have more life. Cerise wanted to continue on brainworm while the rest of her crew were wanting to hang low.
